Transitional kindergarten, or what my district refers to as begindergarten has my whole teacher heart! After teaching one year of preschool, followed by eight years in kindergarten, transitional kindergarten was born in our school. It was SO needed! It has proven to be valuable for our students both academically and socially for years that have followed. The idea of the program is growing in our community, and we have had several districts do in-house visits to explore the program with us. I'm so excited to see this program grow! I've attached links to resources I use in my classroom. We use the World of Wonders series, which provides the groundwork for getting started. However, I have supplemented quite a bit to provide a more challenging experience for students. I have found that these kiddos need a lot of movement, poems, and songs, along with hands-on, engaging activities. They benefit from a lot of additional fine-motor practice as well. Character education is a big part of our learning, and we use picture books to help provide concrete examples so the students make connections. My kindergarten colleagues have found these resources beneficial for differentiation in their kindergarten classrooms as well! The links below all lead to bundles, which are deeply discounted for teachers who are looking for activities for an entire year's worth of learning. Kindergarten ScrapbookMy kiddos absolutely adore their Kindergarten Scrapbooks that they get to take home at the end of the year. What I love is that they show how much the kiddos have grown and that they capture the kiddos' memories from our year together! I've recently created a resource that includes each piece of our scrapbooks, and it's called "Back to School Memory Book!" You might also include additional crafts students complete throughout the year, but truly, this bundle will have you completely covered! Just print a set for each kiddo! Below, I've included a FREE preview for you to download, along with the discounted bundle. You can explore more about each piece of the bundle by clicking on the individual product images below, too! It's a super low-prep packet to easily prep for morning work, center time, and/or daily instruction. Alphabet Activities with Crafts and Writing Prompts for Literacy Centers Prep for back to school with this letter craft pack that we use every week in our classroom that contains a craft for each letter of the alphabet! The craft connects directly to a silly song (or for letters O and V, a learning activity). There is a fill-in and a drawing space on each craft that allows for differentiation to add more words and label in the drawing space or to have the teacher write the word on the blank while the child just draws. The cutting involved with this packet also allows for growth in the area of fine motor throughout your learning. As we complete our weekly letter study, we sing the kids’ song of the week and build an anchor chart with pictures that start with our special letter daily. On Friday, we create the correlating craft from this pack. Children refer to the anchor chart to complete the fill-ins on the crafts. They look forward to finding out what our letter craft of the week will be, and they love to copy from the anchor chart! With the letter Aa, for example, we sing, "The Ants Go Marching." Below are the songs that connect to each of the 26 letter crafts. A: The Ants Go Marching B: Baby Beluga C: Sally the Camel D: How Much is that Doggie in the Window? E: Do Your Ears Hang Low? F: Baby Fish G: The Green Grass Grows All Around H: If You’re Happy and You Know It I: Itsy Bitsy Spider J: Five Little Monkeys Jumping On the Bed K: Five Little Kittens L: We’re Going On a Lion Hunt M: Skinnamarink N: I’m a Nut O: (Activity: move your body like an octopus) P: Peanut Butter and Jelly Q: Five Little Ducks (quack) R: If All the Raindrops S: You Are My Sunshine T: I’m a Little Teapot U: Under the Sea V: (Book: The Very Hungry Caterpillar) W: Down By the Bay (Where the Watermelons Grow) X: What Does the Fox Say?
