Math Organization for Kindergarten

When it comes to kindergarten math, manipulatives are everything! Have a variety of math organized materials is essential for daily hands-on math activities. Here are the easiest ways I keep materials ready to grab and go for math exploration opportunities!

Math Storage for Kindergarten

Let's start with the most beloved classroom manipulatives.  These little crayon boxes are from Walmart, and they hold my favorite classroom treasure. Mini erasers are the best!  I collect them at Oriental Trading, Five and Below, Target, and Dollar Tree!

These pencil boxes are filled with various materials I've picked up from Lakshore, Amazon, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, Dollar Tree, and Target.  Again, the kids just grab and go when it's time for math!

Here are a few more math tools we use for partner activities, whole group lessons, and for center choice time!

Students are assigned to colors for center time, so our tools are used multiple times throughout the day, allowing plenty of choices.

This rainbow storage tub from Target is another perfect storage unit for kindergarten manipulatives.

I keep these pencil pouches handy for our daily lessons!  When the plan calls for specific materials, I just pull them out for the kids to grab.  This technique also make differentiation seamless.  Below are a few of the most used bags, which include spinners, dies, ten frames, numeral cards, number lines, ten frames, and dot cards.

Math Activities for Kindergarten Centers

Here's just ONE reason I love mini erasers!  The kids use them for all sorts of math activities, and here they are using them to count!  They practiced number identification and number order with their flashcards first, and then they placed the erasers above the cards as they worked on counting.

Another game students play with erasers is counting with egg cartons.  They drop them in on-by-one to get to ten, and then they count erasers to place in each section to match the numeral.

Here's an example of one way we used our math boxes during our exploration of weight and volume.
These little paint trays are from Oriental Trading, and the large tray is from Target.  The students use the pompoms (materials stored in our rainbow storage tubs), along with dice and pincers, to play a roll and count game!
