Homework for Kindergarten, Preschool: Thematic Family Activities (Back to School)
In our classroom, we work to create a family-like environment that includes both our students and our students’ families. I’ve created this resource so our students’ families can participate in our thematic learning along with us. BONUS: Keeping the projects for students serves as great pieces for our Memory Books that I send home at the end of the year, too!
At the beginning of each month, I include these family projects with our newsletter. Directions on each sheet ask for students and families to complete the activity by the end of the month. When students bring the completed projects back to school, they place them in our Show and Share basket. When time allows, we project the activities on the board, and students tell us about their assignments. We display projects on our classroom door for the month. At the end of the month, I put the projects in students’ memory books, which will be taken home at the end of the year.
Monthly Assignments:
August: (no projects, as I think it’s important for students and families to ease into new school routines)
September: My Favorite Things (and families are also asked to send in a family photo to hang in the classroom for the year)
October: Halloween Costume

December: All I Want for Christmas

February: Something I Love
March: Favorite Thing to Do In Spring
April: When I Grow Up, Family Member’s Job
