So you know that #parentguilt you feel when you discover that your child's little buddy, Jimmy, identifies all 26 letters of the alphabet, writes his name, and counts to 100, all while your little sweetheart barely recognizes the letters in his name?  I have felt that guilt, and as a teacher, I have also been a witness to that same parent guilt far too many times.
I have also spent over a decade teaching kindergarten, knowing whole-heartedly, within days of starting a new school year, that certain students were just not ready to be in my class.  What was worse was watching their enthusiasm for school quickly fade, resulting in aggressive behavior and a serious lack of self-confidence.   No matter how much I poured into these children, the fact was, that I couldn't possibly pour years of preparation into these kids in order to quickly catch them up with peers.  I felt #teacherguilt, seeing that the rigor was taking a toll on them, yet also knowing it was my job to teach all of the students in the class the kindergarten curriculum.  And when the year was over, I watched those same students struggle in 1st grade, 2nd grade, and it just didn't end.  School continued to take a toll on "my" little kids, and the guilt stayed with me.  I knew they weren't ready from the start; I felt helpless.

After implementing all-day kindergarten in our home district for just 2 years, it became clear to our very driven team that extra support was needed.  Young students, that is, students with "young" birthdays in our classes,  were just not ready for the rigor that an all-day experience presented, and Begindergarten was finally born.   My mission has become to help my babies grow in our Begindergarten classroom, a classroom for young learners to begin their school experience at a pace that's best suited for them.  When students leave my classroom, now with "older" birthdays, they are naturally better acclimated with school materials and concepts, therefore gaining more attention from their teachers and peers from day one of kindergarten.  This only compounds throughout their kindergarten  year and flows over into first grade.   My former Begindergarten students notice the attention they receive, along with the positive reinforcement, and that it only keeps getting better.  This is all because of ONE thing: Success breeds more success.  When our children are successful in that first key year of school, guess what?  They get more attention from their teachers, they start believing they are smart, they start believing that they can win at school.
So what you see here is my mission coming to life.  With my husband's never-ending support and our own little boys' educational endeavors driving us to help better other young learners throughout the world, Krazy for Kindyland has come to be.   We hope to engage children with hands-on learning experiences by crafting and creating, all while building their confidence, ensuring academic success for years to come.
