Making a connection to teaching objectives that include the concepts of living things with pets! To start the week off, I invite students to bring or email pictures of their pets to share with the class! As students share their pets, we discuss how pets grow and change and what we do to keep them healthy. Pet Anchor ChartThis visual serves as our guide as we discuss pets throughout the week! Pet Books for KindergartenWe start our week off with our story study of Knuffle Bunny, and we talk about real pets verses stuffed animals. From there, we read "Some Pets". After that, we read Gilbert's Goldfish, a Pet for Pete, Clifford's Kitten, and What Puppies Do Best. Pet Shop In KindergartenAs we read our favorite pet books, we create one craft per day. During science, we research how to care for each animal. During writing, we write about what the animals need. Before kiddos begin centers, their jobs are to create pet crafts and draw what they need to survive. I give them an example before they begin. Once they finish, we put their pets in the Pet Store! During centers, the students have a ball pretending to feed and care for the animals! On Sale On Sale Pet Crafts, Writing Prompts: Bird, Cat, Dog, Lizard Puppets for Literacy Centers
