November In Kindergarten: Fall, US Symbols, Election, Veterans Day, World Kindness Day, Thanksgiving11/14/2020 November is jam packed with fun activities to celebrate Fall, our country, and kindness around the world. We do this with a variety of activities, stories and crafts that get students excited to learn. Here some ideas to get you started! FallAs Fall weather begins to show its true colors, I like to take the first week of November to do a Fall recap, The concept of holidays, months, and seasons can be challenging; this anchor chart helps students tie it all together. Our class keeps a close eye on our special “Begindergarten Tree” all year long. It grows right outside of our window and is next to the playground, so it’s the perfect tree to observe together. We’ve watched the tree turn from green to red, and this week something special happened. During our morning meeting observation, we noticed the leaves lightly falling to the ground. It was a beautiful, newly frosted morning. That’s when the morning plans went out the window, quite literally. We popped on our coats and went outside to catch some of those precious leaves. While outside, we noted that the leaves were frozen. They gathered some leaves and brought them back to their desks. They hung up their coats, and boom! The leaves were wet. After lunch the leaves were crunchy. We read “Leaf Man” together, and the kids made their own leaf creations! Check out their creativity! I love when life delivers lessons in the classroom…science, vocabulary, art! If you don't have leaves in your area, we've got you covered, craft style, of course! ![]() On Sale On Sale Leaf Man, Owl, Autumn Tree Poem: Fall Craft Activities for Centers, Morning Work

It showed up in our Scholastic book box last week! It has a humor that reminds me of the pigeon series. The kids love it! Another fun craft we do in the Fall is our scarecrow name crafts! Kiddos complete these for name practice during literacy centers, and they look adorable hanging in the hallway! US Symbols Activities for KindergartenSince students are familiar with the flag, we take the time to make connections to more US symbols early in November. We discuss the importance of saying the Pledge of Allegiance and why we honor our Veterans. We create an anchor chart to discuss U.S. Symbols such as the eagle, the White House, the Statue of Liberty, the Liberty Bell and the U.S. flag. Then we connect to the symbols by crafting with them in writing and math with activities listed below! The kids are so engaged with the hands-on opportunities! ![]() On Sale On Sale United States of America Symbols Math and Writing Craft Bundle for Kindergarten: Capitol Building, Eagle, Flag Addition, Star Name

Voting Activities for KindergartenIn our room, it's all about pretending. We set up our election booth and voting box, and the kids wait in line to place their vote for their favorite candy! Once they drop votes in the box, they get a sticker and sit down to hear the results. Once everyone has voted, I put the graph on the board and take out the ballots, one by one. The kids record the results. This year, gummy bears took the win, but in the end, everyone got their choice of candy for a treat. Annnnnd that’s probably why it’s always rainbows and sunshine in our classroom! Kids love these hats to celebrate voting, and it’s a simple way to tie in the introduction of Uncle Sam. They're fantastic for any patriotic holiday! Students create soldiers to decorate the hallway for our Veterans Day assembly. We also use the coloring pages listed below to send to soldiers around the world. Veteran's Day Thank You CraftsThe kids make hats and flags to celebrate the Veterans who come to our school, too! World Kindness Day Craft and Writing Lesson“Peanut Butter and Cupcake” and “The Recess Queen” are perfect titles to discuss being kind to peers on the playground. They tie in beautifully with World Kindness Day, celebrated on November 13th. Two kindness craft and writing activities are listed below! Thanksgiving Activities for KindergartenThe week before Thanksgiving, we discuss food groups, balanced meals, and manners at the dinner table! To wrap up our week, we prepare a meal in our kitchen, and students serve themselves, buffet style! The bottom picture shows the aftermath of the kitchen. Makes me laugh since it’s just like home, complete with dirty dishes and food on the floor! Everyone pitches in to help clean up, in true classroom family style!
