Rock Your School Day: Game Theme with candy land day in kindergarten

Our school implemented another Rock Your School Day! The theme was games, so our kindergarten classroom was transformed into the Candy Land game!

Room Transformation

Prior to the big day, students painted pieces of candy during fine motor time. When they arrived at school on the morning of Rock Your School Day, they were excited to see that the candy they had painted was a part of the decorations for our special day! Molasses Swamp

Is that a box of trash? Yes! It's the packaging material from Hobby Lobby! That's not how the kids saw it, though! It's the Molasses Swamp, and the kids had a ball diving in the gooey swamp to sort beginning sound cards! What I love about imaging with kids is that we don't have to be super fancy if we get them excited with the activities!

Frosted Palace

Who doesn't love bubble wrap?! Wait, is that more trash? Yes! Amazon packaging material this time! Do you see those little snowflakes hanging up above? The kids had created shape snowflakes during math class prior to Rock Your School Day, so we hung them up above the big blue "water" to create the Frosted Palace. Again, the kids were so excited to find that their art was a part of the scenery!
At morning meeting, students took turns walking on the "Icy Letter Path!" Letters were written on the bubbles, so students identified them just before stepping on them. While students waited for their turn, they got some fine motor practice in as they popped the little bubbles! Such simple fun!

Lollipop Woods

Princess Lolly had her Lollipop Woods ready to go for math class. Students rolled a large die and then took a turn at tossing a bean bag on the matching numeral. It was an exciting way to practice number identification!

Candy Land Castle

Over the summer, my father-in-law made this incredible house for our classroom! It has been SO much fun to decorate it for our ever-changing classroom themes. The Candy Castle has probably been the most favorite so far! The kids were so excited to point out the candies they had painted!
We used our castle as the ending point of our life-sized Candy Land game! Students were shown a letter card, and their job was to identify it. Once they did, they took turns rolling a die so we could continue to practice number identification. Then they practiced counting as they hopped the matching number of colored spaces. Ending at the Candy Castle was a sweet victory for all!

Candy Land Costume

One of the most exciting parts of Rock Your School Day is seeing staff dressed for the occasion! Students were mesmerized by my pink hair and Candy Land leggings, both found on Amazon! A candy-themed JoJo Siwa bow found on the clearance rack at Meijer was a fun accessory to bring it all together!
The kids were a hoot as they popped their little faces in the gingerbread man for pictures! I always try to find a way to take individual pictures for Rock Your School Days so the kids have a way to remember all of the fun we had.

Rock Your School Days always fills my teacher heart. The kids commented about how awesome the day was at the end of the day, and I couldn't have agreed more! The activities were SO simple, and it makes me so happy to see that a little pretending is all it takes to keep little ones excited to learn!
