It has become more important than ever to show our kids how to stay healthy at home and at school. Here are some fun ways to show kids how to stay clean and healthy with kindergarten germ lessons! Germ Anchor Chart for KindergartenWe began by creating an anchor chart showing students all about where germs hide. They were pretty surprised by some of the places germs can be found. They also pointed out places their parents had informed them of like walls, drinking fountains and their toys. Germ Science LEsson with BReadWe did a germ science lesson where we discussed what might happen to a piece of bread and the germs left on it for a few days. The kids were all across the board about what might happen to the poor piece of bread. Most of the kids hypothesized that the bread would either turn soggy or explode! That was definitely a fun activity! "Now Wash Your Hands!" by Matt Carr is THE best book for teaching about hand washing! A few of the pages are shown below. The book has a little humor, featuring a toilet, so the kids LOVE it! We also read "Germs vs Soap" by Didi Dragon, another adorable story! Germ Book About Hand Washing for KindergartenGerm Art Activity for KindergartenWe finished our lesson by creating our own germ paintings with google eyes! This was the perfect lesson for introducing students to painting with water colors and cleaning off the brush in between colors. I absolutely love open-ended kid art! Every piece is so unique! TEACHER TIP: Our classroom saying for painting is: Water, Color, Tickle, Tickle, Tickle (the page). I remind students that if they can't see color on their page, they likely need more color, and NOT water. Then I show them what it looks like to repeatedly put water on the page. I make it good and soggy until a hole rips in the paper. They get the picture quickly! For a final touch, the kids got to choose their own morning work from our NO PREP Germ Craft pack. They practiced their fine motor skills as they colored, cut, and glued the pieces together. This activity provided us with a vocabulary lesson, too! Then I popped their crafts onto their paintings from the day before. I love how they turned out, and the kids are so proud of their creations that took TWO whole days. :D Play Doh Germs for SOme Fine Motor FuN!For this theme's open-ended fine motor activity, students poked straws into play doh to create germs! This was SUPER simple, and the kids were engaged with this activity for quite a while. So fun!
