Substitute Groundhog Craft and Writing: Reading Comprehension Book Companion
After you read Substitute Groundhog by Pat Miller this Groundhog Day, practice comprehension skills, and connect to the text as you discuss the question: Who would be good substitute for a groundhog? Who would NOT be a good substitute? Encourage students to tell why or why not. (They might choose a character from the story, or they might choose an animal or person of their choice.) Teacher or students write their ideas. Students draw pictures to go with sentence(s). Glue writing sheets to frames. Create crafts, and attach to writings for display!
