Lesson Ideas:
How We Are the Same and How We Are Different
Read It’s Okay to Be Different by Todd Parr. Discuss similarities and differences among people. Partner students up and have them talk to each other about the color of their skin , hair, and eyes. Using mirrors would be a great addition to their discussions.
Changing as You Grow
Prior to the lesson, have students bring in pictures from various stages of life to refer to throughout you discussion. Point out age differences. Talk about what students did when they were babies, what they looked like, etc. Talk about what students did when they were toddlers, what they looked like, etc. Talk about what students are capable of doing now, as young child, and what they look like, etc.
Craft:
Complete worksheet, and glue to a standard sheet of construction paper to create a frame. Cut and glue craft pieces. Glue behind frame. Glue hands to corners of frame for a special display to celebrate how we are special and unique!
