Numbers, Subitizing Mini Books for Kindergarten Math
As you explore numbers and subitizing with your preschool and kindergarten students, use these little books to guide your instruction! Books for each number 0-10 are included. Guide students to highlight numbers as you also practice print awareness concepts! You might use them as you introduce each number. You might also have students keep a collection of their mini booklets in a baggy or shoebox in the classroom. They can read the books to work on subitizing fluency during their free time.
In our classroom, a new book is introduced each week. On day one, students write their names and highlight the number of the week with yellow highlighters. We read the book together a few times. On day two, students fill in the concepts on the pages, and we read it a few times with partners. (Note that two books are provided for each number, one where the “answers” are already filled in. You might use these books for differentiation.) On day 3, students cut the books out, put the pages in order, and I staple them together. On day 4, we practice reading the book several times; we use different voices for each time we read it.
