Color Words Emergent Readers with Sight Words for Math, Print Awareness
As you explore colors and color words, also explore sight words and concepts of print with your preschool and kindergarten students. Books for each of the following colors are included: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, black, brown, gray, pink, and white.
In our classroom, we use the individual color books during our introduction of colors at the beginning of the year. Students highlight the color words and color the pictures. Then we read the page (s). Once we get through our color study, we review with one last book that lists all of the color words.
Guide students to highlight words, letters, uppercase letters, and punctuation as you practice print awareness concepts! You might also have students keep a collection of their mini booklets in a baggy or shoebox in the classroom. They can read the books to work on fluency during their free time.
