Groundhog Day Activity with Brown Paper Bag Puppet and Weather Report
As you learn about hibernation, Winter, Spring, and shadows this Groundhog Day, make a connection with this groundhog puppet and activity! During morning work or center time, students color, cut, and glue the groundhog puppet craft. Three cutting options are included to best meet the needs of your little learners. During your science lesson, explore weather and shadows by taking your groundhogs outside!
Puppet Directions:
Stuff a paper bag with scrap paper, fold the top down a few times, and staple it. Add pieces to create a groundhog. Another option is for students to glue to the pieces to a flat brown paper bag to create a puppet. Note that there are two choices of tags to glue to the back of the bag. Have students make their predictions and add either a sun or a cloud. Another choice is to have students take their pets outside and then fill in the blank with whether they did or did not see their shadows.
