Community Helper Craft and Writing Activities for Literacy Centers
This community helper pack provides options for you and your learners to explore the jobs and tools of construction workers, police officers, firefighters, chefs, doctors, dentists, and teachers.
Option Idea 1: As you learn about community helpers, students write about a job of their choice during a writing lesson or literacy center. Students practice fine motor and visual-spatial skills as they create crafts to go on top (head, two hands, tools/hats). You might even replace the head with student photos for some extra fun!
Option Idea 2: Make a community helper booklet. Staple writing sheets together at the top. As you explore each job, students cut and glue tools/hats to blank areas of writing sheets. When you finish all of the sheets, students create people that look like themselves to pop on the tops of booklets.
