The Kissing Hand Brown Paper Bag Chester the Raccoon Puppet Kindergarten Arts and Crafts Activity
On the first day of school this back to school season, read about Chester the Raccoon in The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. This craft is super simple for the first day of school while you practice comprehension skills and connect to text.
Our kindergarten arts and crafts are downloads you can print at home or school. Each craft includes a cover and a contents page, so you know exactly how to put pieces together. The only supplies you need are paper, scissors, glue, and crayons! Enjoy creating with the kids!
Students cut out head, paws, tail, and note to parents. They color the heart red. Note that the head, paws, and tail are already gray and black, so minimal coloring is involved. Glue head to the bottom of a brown paper bag. Glue note and paws to the front of the bag. Glue tail to the back of bag. For extra fun, you might also do a retell with the puppets!
The parent notes says:
Today at school, we read a story called The Kissing Hand. In the story, Chester the raccoon goes to school for the first time. He feels a little nervous about leaving his mama raccoon, so she gives him a kissing hand. Ask me about it. We can have our own kissing hands, too!
