Earth Day Activity for Sorting and Reusing
At the beginning of the week, invite students to bring in "clean trash" to use to sort into classroom recycling bins. At the end of the week, students collect their trash items to craft with them! Provide the students with wiggle eyes, paper, and other various craft materials to get creative! Students learn about sorting the trash, and they also learn about reusing!
This product includes a recycling bin printable and parent letter. There are two copying options available for the recycling bin, including one that is already put together that students can color and one that can be copied on construction paper for students to put together. Use the recycling bin printables to label your classroom recycling bins. As students bring items in, they write the material title on the printable to start a new category (paper, plastic, etc.).
A parent letter is also included to explain the activity.
Book companions to go along with this activity include, but certainly are not limited to the following titles:
Recycling is Fun
Why Should I Recycle?
The Earth Book
Big Earth, Little Me
What Does It Mean To Be Green?
Don't Throw That Away!
Michael Recycle
I Can Save the Earth!
The Three R's: Reuse, Reduce, Recycle
