Teach Letters and Sounds with Preschool and Kindergarten Kids

This is the latest letter practice game we like to play!  It's just so, so simple.  I love that we don't have to get a bunch of stuff out for a 10-15 minute activity.  We just do as many letters as we can squeeze in, until he loses interest.  Mom says a letter.  He finds the letter on his alphabet puzzle.  He writes the letter on his board.
Picture
There's a little jingle we do with each letter, too!  This third child has been the least interested in entertaining me with teaching him, but he's given me clues to prove that he's soaking it in.  Just today, he had the hose running into his pool, and the water was forming a rainbow.  He started singing, "R for rainbow. R-r-r!"  Gah!!!  Yay!  I wish I could've caught it on video.  He was surprised by my excitement, but that was my proof that he actually is engaged with our learning.  Such a stinker....  Check it out his little chant with the letter Aa here:
: Simple letter games like this one are included in our weekly letter learning regimen, along with work from our Letter Learning Packet.  Keep reading for more info!

After years of teaching, I have finally compiled my favorite alphabet activities into one resource!  The handwriting sheets are just right for the progression of developing the formation of the letters throughout a week of learning.  Suggested activities provide SO much fun while learning each letter, and kids are excited to find out what each day has in store!

The first page of this resource includes a letter sheet.  As we learn new letters, children color the posters with yellow crayons.  They are encouraged to practice their letter poems in their free time.

Contents for Each Letter:
Page 1: Handwriting Directions with suggested youtube links provided

AND Suggestions for:
-snack
-youtube song that correlates with the letter poster
-animal research topic
-fine motor practice
-creating the letters
-additional activities

Page 2, 3: Letter Poster (color and black and white version)
Hang these posters on your fridge for children to refer to as you learn.  With both the Zaner Bloser letters on lines and the pictures that are in the shape of letters, letter identification skills stick!

Page 4: Letter Poem (Day 1)
Each letter has a silly poem to go along with the poster.  Child creates a color code and finds the uppercase and lowercase letters.  Child counts how many letters s/he found, and writes numbers on the lines.  Practice the poem of the week daily to learn letter sounds.  I recommend using the letter sign language with the last line of each poem.  (Note that you are to say the letter first in the sentence and the sound last.)  As you learn each letter, read the poems that go along with each one daily.  Be sure to act them out for fun and engagement!

Page 5: Uppercase Letter and Lowercase Letter (Day 2)
Child traces letters, and write letters in spaces below.  You might use crayons or markers for a extra fun.

Page 6: Uppercase Letter (Day 3)
Child traces, writes, and draws a picture that corresponds with the uppercase letter on the poster.

Page 7: Lowercase Letter (Day 4)
Child traces, writes, and draws a picture that corresponds with the lowercase letter on the poster.

Page 8: Uppercase and Lowercase Letters (Day 5)
Child traces, writes, and draws pictures or writes words that begin with the letter.

It's nearly time!!
We're looking forward to honoring our fallen soldiers this Memorial Day!  Create and celebrate with us!  This week's FREEBIES for Families craft features ways for children to work on several skills, including letter identification, writing letters, putting letters in order to build names, and of course, the fine motor tasks of coloring, cutting, gluing, and writing!  In working with my three year old, you will see that I wrote the letters and cut out the pieces for him.  He enjoyed the task of coloring "circles" over and over again.  Apparently, that's his favorite shape of the day??  He loves that glue stick, and I love that it's not messy, so he pieced his project together independently, for the most part.  It was a fun task for him to find the letters of his name and put them in the correct order!

Our FREEBIE of the week is included as a preview to our deeply discounted bundle, being offered for a very limited of time at 50% off!  Along with building their names, your children can practice various skills with our United States Symbols Craft Pack, including putting numbers in order on the Capitol Building, learning about eagles, and adding the stripes on the US flag.   Grab your bundle by clicking below NOW!

Today's FREEBIE for Families download is a caterpillar craft for kiddos who are ready for the challenge of counting by 2s!  If your child is not ready for this concept quite yet, simply working on number identification is a way to modify your teaching technique.  In our video, big bro and little bro work together.  I love watching big bros teach the little...the good things...the whole bodily functions deal I could do without....
Along with crafting, we love snuggling up with a good book at our house, so book recommendations are noted on each of our Krazy for Kindyland product bundles.  If you don't have the books in your home library, you can pick books up at your local library, look up online stories from youtube, or pick them up on Amazon!  Book companions to go along with this sweet little craft include, but certainly are not limited to, the following titles:

Easy Mother's Day Craft Activity for Preschool and Kindergarten Kids

Truly, the best part of sharing products with all of you is seeing the fun you're having in the process of creating!  We would LOVE to see your Krazy for Kindyland projects in action!  Tag us on social media, or pop your photos and videos in an email to krazyforkindyland.@gmail.com .
In our first submission today, two littles create our Mother's Day Bear Hugs Craft for their mommy, with the help of their nanny, Miss Kaylee.
What I love about our products is that they are easily adaptable for kiddos of all ages.  I love that Miss Kaylee precut the pieces for her little learners.  Assisting the kiddos with squeezing the glue bottle was helpful for them, too, as they continue to develop the muscles in their pudgy little dimply hands.  (Personally, I thought she was pretty brave using that liquid glue.  We miiiiiight be a glue stick only kind of a family...do you think having all boys did that to me???)
You can choose to print your crafts on the suggested colors, but coloring is such a great fine motor task for young ones to participate in, and it helps give them ownership of the creations, too.

Our second submission is from friends with craft creators ages 5, 4, and 2.  These three little boys had fun when their daddy printed off our Bear Hugs craft to gift to Mommy on Mother's Day morning!

I've always loved crafting with my students in my classroom, but what I love even more is crafting with my own kids at home.  Although this site obviously welcomes teachers, I am THRILLED to now provide downloads here for PARENTS.  Over recent weeks, I have been adding products from my Teachers Pay Teachers store, and I plan to have all bundles uploaded RIGHT HERE on this site by the end of the month.
Here's what I'm SO EXCITED to share with all of you!  Here is where you will find FREE files to download and print at home.  Your kids will LOVE to craft with you, and you will LOVE to spend some quality time with them.  After all, there's not a whole lot else to do at this point, anyway.  I know our family has played every board game we own over the last weeks.
Below, you will find our very first FREEBIE for Families file and tutorial, just in time for Mother's Day!

COVID-19, Teaching From HOme, And A Room Transformation

5/1/2020

With the school closure and virtual learning in place, being a mom of three little boys and teaching at the dining room table was quickly proven unrealistic.  I begged my husband to whip up a farmhouse-style desk, and after attempting to work from home for 7 days himself, he knew it was necessary, too.
Picture
I was thrilled to have a space...a space where I could close the door.  Then I made a stop at Smarty Pants Findlay.  Jane was amazing at providing THE perfect products to create a beautiful display for my at-home classroom.  These are products from the BRAND NEW Rustic Bloom collection, which fit in perfectly with the farmhouse theme I was going for in our office.  "Bloom where you are planted" has come to be one of my most favorite quotes, so this collection truly could not have been more perfect.
Picture
Jane also provided me with Better Than Paper for the background.  This stuff.  Is.  Amazing!!  After 14 years of teaching using everything under the sun for bulletin board backgrounds, from butcher paper, to felt, to bed sheets, this stuff FAR exceeded my expectations!!!    I would compare it to a vinyl material, but FUN FACTS:
1)
It doesn't show holes when you staple in it.
2) You can write on it with dry-erase markers.
3) It won't collect dust like those navy blue sheets I currently have in my classroom.
4)  It doesn't tear like paper.
It basically stays perfect, meeting all of the obsessive needs in my teacher bulletin board heart.
Picture
Jane recommended I use mavalus tape, another new discovery for me.  Oh my goodness...it is amazing.  How can tape be amazing?  Well this stuff holds everything in place.  Truly.  My bulletin board has quite a bit of weight on it, and it hasn't budged.  It doesn't take paint off of the walls.  I moved items around several times, and it didn't get less sticky, and the tape didn't pull the backing off of the bulletin board pieces.  I know.  Amazing, right??
Picture
The final component of the bulletin board is my favorite, though.  Flowers.  These flowers!!! As a mom of three boys, there's NOTHING girly about living in our house.  What's quite incredible about these flowers is that I did not have to make them.  Shew!  I would have had so much time in them.  They came prepackaged, and there are several different options.
Picture
The best part is all you have to do to create a flower is pull the two sides together.
Picture
I just think these are adorable!  They would be a wonderful addition to any classroom or little girl's room.  I'm pretty sure my sweet little niece needs them in her bedroom.

With all of these components, my farmhouse bulletin board came together in full bloom!
Picture
I finally have my own girly space in this house that's overrun by all things boy.  Although, I have to admit that while on a Google Chat yesterday, my coworkers still asked about who had the crazy noise in the background.  The door was closed.  I tried.
