It's that time again! We're ready to gobble until we wobble! I break Thanksgiving down into two parts. We have a theme about family, family traditions, and manners. We also have a week dedicated to Thanksgiving long ago. Thanksgiving Books for KindergartenOur favorite Thanksgiving books include The Relatives Came, Spookley the Square Pumpkin A Family To Be Thankful For, Clifford's Thanksgiving Visit, A Turkey for Thanksgiving, Clifford's Family, The Family Book, Thanksgiving Is For Giving Thanks, The Night Before Thanksgiving, Bear Says Thanks, and Feast For 10. Throughout the week, we make connections and write about concepts from the books. Bonus: When we read Feast for 10, we use dry-erase boards to practice numbers each time they appear on a page! Manners and A Balanced PlateAs we talk about gathering as a family at Thanksgiving, we also discuss Thanksgiving meals. We learn about making healthy choices with a balanced plate and this food groups anchor chart. We also discuss manners, trying new things and how to react if we don't prefer the taste of something. Then the kiddos prep their plates by coloring them and cutting them out. When they finish, they hop in the food line to get their food from the kitchen! We. Love. Pretending! And this is great fine motor practice for the kids, too! The students get to practice their food group knowledge as they place foods into categories on their very own balanced plates! ![]() Balanced Plate Nutrition Kindergarten Arts and Crafts Science Lesson Activity

Requests? Email us at krazyforkindyland@gmail.com Thanksgiving Traditions and The Macy's Day ParadeMy kids love any "Old Lady" book! Clearly, I do too. I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie is the perfect story for a discussion about a very unbalanced plate! She eats way too much food, and in the end, she turns into a blimp in a parade. This then leads to our discussion of Thanksgiving family traditions and The Macy's Day Parade. We read Balloons Over Broadway to learn about how balloons are made. Have I mentioned that we love pretending? We connect to our books by holding our very own Thanksgiving Parade! To prepare, students color and cut symbols of Thanksgiving. We talk about symbols of other holidays, too, such as bunnies for Easter, Christmas Trees for Christmas, etc. For this project, I glue popsicle sticks together and tie yarn to two ends. When the kids completed their symbols, I tape them to the sticks. I'm hopeful that they will remember our class parade when they watch the Macy's Day Parade on Thanksgiving for years to come! ![]() Thanksgiving NO PREP Craft Pack: Turkey, Pie, Pumpkin, Corn, Acorn, Cornucopia

Requests? Email us at krazyforkindyland@gmail.com Thanksgiving Long Ago Activities for KindergartenThanksgiving is the perfect time to tie in the standard for teaching about long ago. We talk about relying on nature to survive, which includes wearing animal hide and fishing for food. To incorporate math, we "fish" for shapes. Students stand on the edges of the carpet, and I describe a shape by saying how many sides, vertices, and colors. Student fish for the shapes and glue them to their "animal hide" vests! During literacy, we discuss using letters to make words and write stories. We connect to long ago by discussing how people used to draw pictures to tell stories. On the backs of the vests, students create their own stories using pictures! You can see that our parade wear is so much more than just crafts! There's so much learning tied into our crafting during Thanksgiving week! Thanksgiving Snack Activity with Stone SoupWe always read "Stone Soup" during Thanksgiving week. It is fun to connect with the story by creating these little soup pot crafts! Then we write about the book by making lists of ingredients! ![]() Stone Soup Craft and Writing Pack: What ingredients do you need? (Thanksgiving)
