Does anyone else sometimes feel lost in “LetterLand”? It’s a big task to teach all 26 letters of the alphabet to five and six year olds and sometimes it’s hard to know which resources to use. Luckily, after years of teaching preschool/kindergarten, I finally created a letter learning resource to best fit the needs of my kids. We have followed a variety of routines in the past, but nothing that quite flowed the way that I wanted it to. I compiled years of teaching one of my biggest passions into one file, and I'm so excited to share it with you! The handwriting sheets are just right for the progression of developing the formation of the letters throughout a week of learning. Suggested activities provide SO much fun while learning each letter, and the kids are excited to find out what each day of school has in store! Ultimate Alphabet PackSo! What's all included?! Each letter contains the following: Page 1: Handwriting Directions with suggested youtube links provided AND Suggestions for: -snack -youtube song that correlates with the letter poster -animal research topic -fine motor practice -creating the letters -additional activities Letter Activity SuggestionsAn example of an activity suggestion includes reading Alphabet Mystery by Audrey Wood and Bruce Wood as you teach about the letter X. The cute little story tells how the letter x feels left out, and I love to kick of our letter x study with it to explain that our anchor chart for the week looks different than all of the others because x is at the end of our key words.  Another suggested letter activity is to create a volcano with the letter V!  With just baking soda, food coloring, and vinegar, engage those kiddos with an explosion! As you study the letter J, JUMP through the ladder with some fun moves to practice large motor skills! Our physical therapist brought this idea to us, and it was a complete hit!  For the letter W, kiddos use yarn, black paper, and liquid glue to form W "webs"! I loved how they problem-solved and came up with their own ideas!  The letter Z can be a little tricky, but don't worry, we've got that letter covered, too! Cut zigzags with crafting scissors!  Letter PostersPages 2 and 3 of each letter pack contains letter posters (color and black and white version). Hang these posters in your classroom for students to refer to throughout the year. With both the Zaner Bloser letters on lines and the pictures that are in the shape of letters, letter identification skills stick! Here's how the the colored version looks in our classroom:  Letter PoemsPage 4 for each letter includes a poem that is introduced on day 1 of our letter study. These silly poems go along with the posters. Student creates a color code and finds the uppercase and lowercase letters. Student counts how many letters s/he found, and writes numbers on the lines. Practice the poem of the week daily to learn letter sounds. I recommend using the letter sign language with the last line of each poem. (Note that you are to say the letter first in the sentence and the sound last.) As you learn each letter, read the poems that go along with each one daily. Be sure to act them out for fun and engagement! Handwriting WorksheetsHandwriting sheets are also included with this pack. The following describes the layout and the days we use them in our 5 day letter exploration: Page 5: Uppercase Letter and Lowercase Letter (Day 2) Student traces letters, and write letters in spaces below. You might use crayons or markers for a extra fun. Page 6: Uppercase Letter (Day 3) Student traces, writes, and draws a picture that corresponds with the uppercase letter on the poster. Page 7: Lowercase Letter (Day 4) Student traces, writes, and draws a picture that corresponds with the lowercase letter on the poster. Page 8: Uppercase and Lowercase Letters (Day 5) Student traces, writes, and draws pictures or writes words that begin with the letter. Students keep this sheet, which is copied on card stock, in their folders. Every fun Friday, we color the letter (with markers...ooooo!) we have studied all week because we are now EXPERTS! During their free time, students are encouraged to go back and say the poem for each letter they have learned. This folder travels back and forth between school and home, so families get to practice with their children at home, too.  FREE Download! Once I color our class letter chart, kids get to sign the alphabet friend with the letter we have mastered! Then we place the alphabet friends around the room to keep referring back to throughout the year. They are so proud of these!
